Budget Reduction Announced

Office for Civil Society has today announced £11m of savings from its 2010/11 resource budget - as part of wider package of savings across Cabinet Office. As a contribution to those savings, Capacitybuilders’ overall budget for 2010/11 has been reduced by £1.3m.

Public service commissioners welcome collaboration and merger between civil society support providers

Research published by Capacitybuilders shows the majority of public service commissioners would like to see greater collaboration and merger between organisations that provide support and advice to civil society groups.

The findings of the report show that commissioners think mergers can deliver a positive impact across a range of areas including: simpler funding relationships and easier engagement with the voluntary and community sector.

Latest survey of support providers shows mergers on rise as demand for services continues to increase

Survey findings released today show that demand from frontline groups is continuing to increase, while more support providers report a reduction in their income. Nearly half of all support providers stated that they are continuing to cope well.

New support resource for people managing volunteers

Capacitybuilders is pleased to report the launch of a new online volunteer management portal that has been created using funding from our Volunteer Management programme, supported by the Office for Civil Society.

Sustainability report - five new case studies published

Five new sustainability case studies have been published by Capacitybuilders as a follow up to the March 2010 report which explored how support providers can make their services more sustainable.

In addition to the publication of these case studies, Capacitybuilders also held a sustainability event in June to provide an opportunity to consider the report in more detail.

Evaluation shows the RCAN Investment Programme has benefitted rural communities

An interim evaluation, published today by Capacitybuilders, confirms that the £10.35 million Rural Community Action Network (RCAN) Investment Programme, delivered by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) on behalf of Defra, is meeting its objective to improve the way in which the needs of rural communities are addressed by national, regional and local government.

Capacitybuilders announce launch date for new £1m volunteer management bursary scheme

From Monday 22 March, individuals who support, coordinate, manage or have strategic responsibility for volunteers will be able to apply for one of 600-800 bursaries of up to £1950 to pay for skills development under Capacitybuilders’ Volunteer Management Programme.

Each bursary will fully fund an approved skills development package, delivered regionally by experienced, respected training providers and aligned to the national occupational standards in volunteer management.

Modernisation Fund Grant Holders set to benefit from continued support

Capacitybuilders is partnering with registered charity, Pilotlight, to offer continuing capacity building support to some of the Modernisation Fund Phase Two grant holders who are in the final stages of working through a merger or collaboration.

Pilotlight is a registered charity working to provide free capacity building support to small, ambitious charities and social enterprises.

Capacitybuilders announce £2m new capital investment in third sector resource centres

Four flagship resource centre projects in Blackburn, Scarborough, Gateshead and Slough are in line to receive grants of up to £500,000.

The grants are being awarded under the final strand of Capacitybuilders’ Capital Investment Programme of £7m, funded through the Office of the Third Sector.  With additional match funding of at least 50% from other sources, the investment will support the development of new resource centre facilities and shared services for co-located organisations.
